Amazingly, I never knew this about roadside poles!

So to further display my appalling ignorance on the subject, why are they called "transformer bases"? From those pics there doesn't seem to be a transformer actually inside the base...or is there usually?

Well, you certainly have it in for me for some reason i can't fathom. i suspect that many of similar barbed posts are from you .. it is unlikely that i have so many enemies. Anyway it is easy to snipe from anonymity..it is your privilege.

Yes, i googled. i learnt how to use a computer at age 50. Today i can build my own. i also gained enough expertise in 3D CAD, kinematic analysis and FEA to design and analyse products .. after all, 90% of electrical products require mechanical knowledge don't they?

When i see youngsters asking questions which can easily be found by googling, why ask here and ask for ribald comments from the world over? So i try to help by googling and give the appropriate link. Is that a crime ?

i also learn in the process. i had never heard of a 'breakaway transformer' till i saw this post. Naturally i googled. Realised that there are different kinds of transformers. Not electrical. More like the toy i broght for my son decades ago, which would 'transform' from a car to a robot.

Interesting to learn this.

Well you can keep sniping..sticks and stones etc...

But please let me know what i did to offend you so much that you have made me a 'project'?
