Shock at Minimum Current

06/09/2010 8:04 AM

What is the minimum current to feel shock and what is the lethal current? I learned and forget it because the earth fault relay trips at 33milli amps now.

Dear Sir,

Do you want us to spoonfeed you ? Search for human electric shock levels

in Google. I find opening your thread is sheer waste of time as I have been

observing your questions for past 4 months ! Sorry for my frank comments.

Please download and read ECT114 from Schneider Electric. You need to find that link.

Here is a descriptive image.

Try searching for "Dalziel's Experiment" in Google. You will get your answers.

DISCLAIMER: Follow the safety rules provided by your workplace, worker safety organizations, and/or the equipment manufacturers.

I spent many years working in a high voltage pulsed power R&D lab. There were 4 basic rules we followed since almost everything in sight could kill you.

1) ANYTHING capable of supplying a short circuit current of over 20 mA was dangerous.

2) ANYTHING capable of storing more than 2 Joules of electrical energy was dangerous.

3) When not in use, all dangerous sources were to be shorted to a ground potential with a clearly visible solid BARE copper wire.

4) NEVER any practical jokes... PERIOD! Even the most innocent practical joke could startle someone into accidentally touching a lethal high voltage point.

No one was ever injured in our lab. The rules and a healthy respect for the dangers kept everyone safe.

i don't know about the others who found your question elementary, but thanks to your question and ee65's answer, i learnt something new .... a short way to say what i already knew

Short Answer: "It's the volts that jolt, but it's the amps that kill."
