Utility Station

Can you please explain whether we need an isolation valve in case of placing utility station (other than the one whihc we provide for the hose connection) as shown in the figure above.

If required then under what conditions & if not then why not??

Please explain.

Your sketch is "Right", "Correct", and "Proper" for ALL normal Utility Station installations.

Yes, you need the "isolation" valve (nearest to the header) in case there is a break in the line near the ground. Remember, near the ground there will be traffic in the form of people, and the moving of machinery. There will also be stress placed on the utility line connections by some worker pulling on the hose connected to the coupling. Then "SNAP" there goes the line and you need a second shut-off with out shutting down the whole unit or plant.

Yes, you need the valves down near grade because you don't want the maintenance people climbing up in the pipe rack every time they want to turn on or turn off a utility service. You also don't want "Maintenance" mad at you for making their work harder or more dangerous.

Thanks for the explaination. But i n my case, the utility line's length is hardly 3 metres and header is at 3 meter high.

Do i need to provide another isolation valve near the header as i have provided the valve at the hose connection.

The attached drawing is extracted from "The Piping Guide" by David Sherwood, Figure 6.12, and we consider that drawing as a standard design for a utility station. Please read the full Article 6.15 from the specified book.
