Depends on what you mean by "link plates". Are you referring to plates in a motor connection box for a dual voltage IEC motor? Are you referring to the connectors used in Start / Delta contactors? Are you referring to something in a Star / Delta transformer?

This question is very vague.

For a motor this connection information should be clearly indicated on a label on either the side of the motor and/or on a label inside the lid of the motor terminal box. The same goes for a transformer. Also look at the associated data sheets and/or manuals either provided with or available off the manufacturers website (especially if this is a contactor Star Delta motor starter application you are describing).

Without knowing more information regarding your product and application it is impossible to give a more detailed explanation.

Your request is very ambiguous. However if you do have the plates use them, it is easier and more convenient since you dont have to cut and makeup wire connections/links. It is NOT a must.

As has been said.

Are the link plates you intend to use capable of carrying the current you intend to draw.

Then they could be good to aid ease of wiring and if they are from the same manufacturer for the machine you have then it could just be useful for you an easy connection method.

All said.
