02/22/2007 2:29 AM

Dear All,

As your information our company doing Integrity Underground Storage Tank & Pipeline Testing all over Asia Pacific areas. Base on company integrity & responsibility, we need to install more then 2000 pcs product tanks markers to our clients as requested.

We have many case such wrong fillings product ( at Filling pipe ) from vehicle tanker (4 compartment diferent products each) to underground storage tanks. Many cases product Diesel mixed to underground Petrol tank, Petrol product mix to underground Diesel tank or other products can be happen. To pump out can make a high cost, take time and sales stop.

We accept this's human error from vehicle driver and supervisor not monitor from start to end discharge time. We has install chain c/w instruction, painting the filling pipe using colouring product (become discoloured) but it's still cannot practise to solf the problem.

i has solution need to share with your side or you have ideas and products to market.

1) Change male adeptor from filling pipe and female from hoses pipes.

2) Using Product tank markers and plug at the floor near filling pipe.

Thank you for your time and your cooperation highly expreciated.

The problem you describe is caused by lack of proper procedures during the tank filling. Fitting different filler pipe fixtures and labels will prevent some mistakes but you must write a proper procedure and put in place a supervisory check - this could be just a signature on a form to show that the site operator and tanker driver have communicated BEFORE any fuel is delivered. This formal, pre-delivery check will also have the effect of placing the blame and remedial cost for any wrong fills. In the UK wrong deliveries do still happen, but very rarely and the rules are very strictly applied.

Getting fuels mixed up is bad enough but this type of error could also lead to a serious accident - are the tanker drivers connecting bonding leads, do they have clear means of escape if a fire breaks out, are their fire extinuishers and trainiing up to date, do the site operators carry out a dip of the tanker pots to ensure they get full measure delivery?

You might find these web sites useful if you need materials or information:-

ANSI has standards for product marking. If marked correctly (per the standard) they should be as clear as can be. Let me know if you need help locating these standards.

Hope I didn't sound too hard in my earlier post but I was trying to explain that unless you have a standard labeling system for tank fill points and standard procedures for tanker drivers to follow then mistakes will still happen. The link (above) to the Berry Co website lists various fill pipe labels which they sell. Please note that in the UK each oil company still uses their own labeling for each fuel grade!!! This works fine until the site changes its supplier or the supplier uses an inexperienced tanker driver who mis-reads the grade. This is where the site operator must take charge of the fill procedure; after all, the resultant mess from mixed grades will seriously affect his trade and result in claims from motorists who have wrecked their engines or catalytic convertors. Even if the fuel supplier accepts responsibility and pays for the mistake the garage will never get back full customer confidence in its products.

My advice would be to approach the fuel suppliers and ask them if they can supply the correct labels - if not, send them a quote to supply and fit standard labels to all their sites and back this up with a similar quote to individual site operators.

It would be in everyone's interest to reduce this problem to zero.
