Synchronization

06/22/2010 8:20 AM

Hi.

We have a unit connected system. In a unit connected system, generator is connected to transformer then to 220kv circuit breaker.

1. The c.b. is called a synchronization breaker? i.e. closed at that particular instant?!

How syncrhonization will be analyzed here?

sks

Here is a very primitive way of synchronizing 2 gensets. All you need is 3 incandescent lamps, and a means of connecting and disconnecting the gensets together. First you have to find out the correct sequence of the phases of the gensets. connect the 3 lamps such that each lamp is connected 1 wire to genset1 and the other wire to genset2 and each lamp is connected to a different phase. There is 1 incoveniance . as the lamps are connected to the phase on both terminals you need a 220v bulb if your electricity is 110v. otherwise you will need 6 lamps of 110v each pair connected in series. Both gensets must have same voltage same frequency and same star/delta configuration. If your Gensets have a star configuration connect the Neutrals directly. Start both gensets and watch the lamps. They must be palpating, slowly getting brighter and getting deemed at a certain frequency. If all the lamps are behaving similar i mean palpating in synchronisation then you got the phase sequences correct. If not then interchange any 2 of the phases of any1 genset. now that you got the phase sequence correct wait for the lamps to get dimmed to zero and "click" connect both gensets together. Bravo you have put 2 gensets into synchronisation.

If you are involved in the system-Installation you are describing, then please do not touch anything first.

Then go and get yourself a tutor to explain to you what is this Synchronising stuff is all about. Your question is very basic and naive.
