See the "Search this Forum" box to the right? Type Cavalier won't start in there. You'll have dozens of instant friends here.

They must have only built these on Mondays and Fridays.

We /I don't like to pick on people when they try to accomplish something, but how did he manage to break the sensor? It has an o' ring around it and sits in the crankcase bathing in oil. I have replaced a few and never had any problem removing them. They are a little awkward to get at, but not impossible to remove. I'm wondering if all these problems people are having with these vehicles aren't mechanic induced. Before I would condemn it to the salvage yard, get a second opinion.

Here's a second opinion. The car is ugly also.

If the sensor is useless already, treat it like a broken bolt. Drill into it, and set an easy out into it and start turning it. Two things may happen. 1) it strips out and makes the hole bigger. If that happens, use a bigger easy out, or go to drywall screws, the course thread variety. Once you have a good bite on it, pry it out.

Option 2) it bites into the sensor and the sensor starts to spin. Once you have it spinning, start to lift and pull at the same time.

On the other hand, if you want to test weather or not the new sensor is going to make the ignition work, that is easier. Just plug the new sensor in, and turn the ignition switch to the on position and pass a good sized screwdriver across the sensor. If the coils start to fire, continue to work at removing the sensor. Good luck. I have owned two of these car designs. One ran for years until my daughter tried to see if air cooling would work. The other one is still stashed away for future use.

I love your sense of humor and agree completely with your procedure for removal. Your suggestion to check for spark is right on the money. Good advice! Somehow I detect a hidden respect for this model since you are saving one for future use. Could it be you are counting on something to keep you busy? Have a great day !

Actually it was an impounded auto that I had to repair in the impound yard. I submitted a bill for repairs, and had to put a lien on it. It is a Baretta model with the hot (?) 3.4 engine. I have three daughters. One of them always needs a car. I spent a few years at GM dealerships, and find them filled with less annoying surprises.

If he replaced the Crank Sensor and ignition module. Did he replace the coil packs? If so check the ECM fuse in the fuse panel.

ya'll are what i like to call redneck back yard mechanics. first off dont drill into it. needless to say shaving will end up clogging just about eveything and then your replacing more then needed. heres what you do go and get a oil pan gasket and some blue rtv and some earl to replace all that u lose. besides the point your car could prob use a new gasket anyways its prob leaking like all do. so now that u have your ac motor pulled lower engine bracket and your started off take your pan down and push that rusted corroded nasty plastic sensor out the back of your block........ Heres your sign!!! (larry the cable guy)

Go ahead O great nameless one. We have all been so impressed by your grasp of the subject, procedure, typing and grammar skills.
