American Equivalent for British steel

02/23/2007 11:52 AM

Does anyone have any information on a british low-alloy high-strength steel designated as "EN 11". In particular, I am seeking a domestic equivalent. Thank you.

The best I can do is recommend a couple of sources. ASM International (www.asminternational.org) publishes a Worldwide Guide to Equivalent Irons and Steels. It's available both printed and on CD ROM. Unfortunately I no longer have a copy.

Another possibility is www.steelspec.org.uk. They have a cross reference of European standards (which I believe EN 11 is) to other international standards.

Good luck.

If it's of any help; BS970:1966 included EN11 then, when the standard was revised, it became BS970:1970 grade 526M60. When the standard was revised again in 1983 there was no direct equivalent given. I no longer have any copies of the early standard so I can't give you the composition but I have found from a brief search that it contains 1% Chromium.

I hope this helps
