What specialty are you interested in (geotechnical, environmental, water resources, structural, project managment and general construction engineering, etc..)?
thank u 4r ur kind reply sir... iam interested in ding in structural and highway dept... i thought of preparing model ar my design project... plz help with ur idea...
Oh I really don't deal with transportation bridges, so would be outside of my field. You should identify an adviser in your department that specializes in bridge design and discuss what the requirements and expectations for a project are. A model alone would not likely be sufficient, as I would guesss, based on experience, that they will want some testing/experimentation that explains some important feature of the design where it differs from something you could simply copy from somewhere else, or features specifically suited for a particular Sites features and characteristics. A model is usually just a support apparatus to justify your design characteristics for a particular project. so when you consider a project, you will need to develop the design characteristic necessary to provide the sturcture needed based on proposed site conditions, and final design features or improvements. then set up the parameters to test the design, and model that design for a computer simulated test (or a physical test if a physical model). What aspect of bridges are you intersted in?
hydrographic modification, stormwater impacts on stream environments and low impact development processes have some interest at the Federal and state levels at the moment. Pervious pavements and runoff capture and infiltration onsite before entering the SW system is a good topic. Developing strong systems for traffic that still allow runoff and infiltrations at pre-development conditions is very good. As you may be aware, one of the biggest issues in arid or semi-arid regions is how to maintain the groundwater recharge while allowing development to proceed, and still provide the strength and quality of facilities.
