Rim Welding

07/06/2010 1:28 AM

I need to know if anyone has welded custom cast 20" aluminum rims before.

I don't need welding procedure numbers and/or lengthy metallurgical jargon. I just want an idea if I should use the 4043 or 5356 rod to TIG weld the rim strong enough to take mounting the tire and holding 35lbs of air in a static display.

Thanks,

From a home project fabricator

Thanks, your suggestions are ruining my reasons for procrastination/laziness! Those suggested websites were very positive and helpful.

I now know that I am fully capable of performing this task and I was allowing fear to delay my progress. When I'm done with this reply, I will stop squishing my butt and get out to the garage and "get er done".

Anyhow, I do appreciate your help. Thanks!

How about a before and after picture, so we can critique your work.

Oh and don't weld it with a tyre (tire) fitted. We don't want any more cases (sic) of Pyrolysis...

No pictures, no answers.

Use velcro.

Cool Idea! Being unemployed, I needed that to lighten our mood around the house.
