MSE Auto Updates

07/06/2010 9:53 PM

I have just started using Microsoft Security Essentials; it is currently set for automatic updates. When it updates (daily?) does it establish an Internet connection if there is not one already? Probably more important to me--does it turn off that Internet connection when it is done updating? (We are on dial-up.) I turn the computer totally off at night--what does it do when updates are scheduled at 2 AM? Thanks.

MSE will miss the set time of update for how long you configured the max to be then update when the computer is on line with XP, when it is on and connected to a phone line. Yes it closes the connection when finished but you need to change the update window to a time when the computer is normally "ON".
