Role of Voltage and PF in AUX Power Reduction

Hi all,

we have a captive power plant of capacity 58MW,(running avg load is 54MW), aux con. is 160MWH per day. we are working to reduce the power plant consumption to 155MWH.

my question is, what is the role of Voltage and PF at PCC level and export level to reduce aux consumption?

gen. voltage is 6.6KV, export Voltage is 6.6KV, PCC voltage 415V

Wattage = sqrt 3 x V x I. Reduction of voltage is a common way to reduce the load wattage during peak conditions. However, the reduction can only be decreased a limited amount or damage to the connected load will occur. Improving your PF does not decrease the MWH's except for the minor line losses you are incurring. You should check the MVA demand and the MVA capacity of your generator. Improved PF will reduce the MVA demand.
