Hydrotest Drain Vent in Small Bore Steam Line

07/12/2010 12:35 AM

I have issued isometrics of small bore steam sampling line in the one of the power project. As a general practice we do not keep hydrotest drain/vent in the small bore piping. Now, i got comment from the client, asking low point drain in the steam sampling line saying that condensate will accumulate in the pockets. In other system like service water, instrument air small bore lines they do not ask for the drain/vent.

What is the common practice for provision of hydrotest drain/vent in the small bore piping ? Do we really need this?

It is common practice to include High Point Vents and Low Point Drains in all lines that are to be Hydro-tested. They can be left off certain lines that are Commodity Tested such as Air unless the Client says otherwise.

If your question is: "Are vent/drain connetions required for sample lines, then the answer is .....NO

Sample lines fucntion as VENT AND DRAIN lines....
