SMAW and GTAW Welding Process

07/22/2010 12:56 AM

Hi,

I have a PQR which shows a GTAW and SMAW combine welding process. The root pass is weld using a 2.4mm filler rod. The rest of it is welded using smaw. Total thickness of base metal is 7.11mm.

Using the PQR can i create a GTAW only WPS of max 4.8mm thk?

Hi

If on the PQR it shows a GTAW and SMAW combine welding process, does this means that for the WPS we can create a GTAW ONLY welding process?

Please advice.

Thank you very much

REgards,

Jess

As per ASME Sec. IX, a change from one welding process to the other is an essential variable and requires re-qualification.
