I've always found a ductulator (yea,it's real) to be helpful.

Here's an example:

You can use ductulator. If it is not available use simple formula Q= A XV Q is the flow rate,A is the area and V is the velocity. Select the velocity as per the ASHRAE standards and calculate the Area & Size. Based on its thickness & material ( Mostly G I sheets of different gauges are used) you can calculate the quality and weight with the help of material properties table.

The 2009 Fundamentals volume of the ASHRAE Handbook series will provide you the information you are looking for regarding designing a ventilation system. Also check your local mechanical code to determine the minimum rate of ventilation required for the particular application in the locale. Good luck.

You've not indicated the reason for the ventilation system and that is critical in designing it to determine the required air flow. An excellent guide is Industrial Ventilation A Manual of Recommended Practice by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. It will give you the size and routing information you will need as well as the suggested flow rates for various industrial applications.

I do not know of anyone with a "free" copy, except an older version that they may want to get rid of. My best suggestion would be to check out Amazon (www.amazon.com) and go to "books", and type in Industrial Ventilation in the search bar. There you will find many older copies for very little money (for example, 1986 version in soft cover spiral wound for $10 USD). They will probably take paypal. Updated versions include some new material, but I think you will find the fundementals do not change much from version to version.
