We use Mastercam X5 but mostly SolidWorks or CATIA for our Modeling. Yes you can use it to create a model. That is a lot of information to load into a machine when you have the ability to just shoot the code over from mastercam...seems redundant. I have yet to find a machine based software that works as well as Mastercam or Edgecam for surfacing. I would imagine it could be done if the machine has import capabilities for that file type for ex. (SLDPRT.) import with feature recognition software in the CNC control software for the toolpath.

well, do you know the application program that can check or verify your programmed mastercam to every mcode and gcode sequence. i saw one but i can't remember whats the name.
