Using Cu as Alloying Element in High Chrome Alloy Cast Steel

08/07/2010 3:09 AM

Hi, we have 10.9E10 type pulveriser in our power plant. We get grinding balls for pulveriser from one manufacturer which consists about 0.42% Cu in ball material which is High Chrome alloy cast steel of BHN 640 wheather the OEM dosen'n use Cu for the same. I want to know what is the purpose to use Cu in this alloy and what will be the effect on grinding ball regarding wear. Thanks.

Cu slows austenitic transformation, helping the formation of martensites- which is critical for you (thick section castings)

However it is also Austenite stabiliser. The supplier must have chosen the chemistry to suit your application.
