UPS Backup Time Dropped

08/16/2010 4:20 AM

someone please help me to troubleshoot this scenario?

I have 2 galaxy MGE 120kVA UPSs connected in parallel and supplying a data center. each one of them has been showing over 10hrs back-up time on the its Display with about 23% loading per UPS (each ups has a bank of 180, 6V batteries, connected in 3 strings, @ string with 60 batteries). But recently, one of the units until has dropped the back-up time it shows on the display to around 3 hours while the rest is still showing the normal-"over 10hrs".....have physically checked the batteries, they all seem fine.....have taken voltage measurements...the battery bank for each gives about same volatge i.e 408V & 409V.....what could be the cause of this scenario?? will greatly appreciate the help.

thnx

Only battery bank output voltage does not gives you correct information, check output current of each battery string by using a clamp-on meter, and check voltage at individual battery terminals.

To be sure if there is a problem, carry out battery dischrge test.

Selection for hot standby (Dual redundant) from the current parallel redundant operation should be ascertained from equipment manual if so required for the discharge testing so that you do not need to disrupt normal operation.

I am aware that sometimes when the vendor's technicians are called for periodic maintainance etc, as they have password they may alter the relay datum parameters by mistake.
