Detecting Proof Stress From Metals

What is the proper way to detect proof stress from metals ? pl. tell formula and graphical rep.

If you want to 'detect' the proof stress from scratch then you will have to perform a tensile test to destruction on a sample of the metal then analyse the stress / strain curve.

Unless you have the required testing machine it is simpler to look up the proof stress in the tables published by various standards - ASTM, ASME, British Standards, or DIN spring to mind.
