Gasket Thickness

08/20/2010 8:53 AM

When modeling a piping system, what gasket thickness should be used between the flanges, the compressed thickness or the uncompressed thickness?

Your input is very much appreciated.

Is this piping model for the stress analysis of a system ?

Is this thickness question for input into CAESAR-II or AUTOPIPE analysis ?

If so, IMHO it makes no difference to the results of the analysis.

Please explain......or is this just a "question that came up in the lunchroom"

Thanks for replying to my question. I understand that the thickness of gaskets needs to be accounted for when creating the piping layout, otherwise at the last connection the joint will not mate properly. Now, should I use the compressed thickness of the gaskets or the uncompressed thickness when creating the piping layout?

Thanks
