Static Water (hydrostatic) Testing of Above Ground Vertical Oil Storage Tanks

08/20/2010 3:04 PM

We are required to carry out static water (hydrostatic) testing of several above ground vertical, (20m height), oil storage tanks newly constructed on concrete ringwall foundations, which subsoil was not improved upon and located about 60m from the sea front.

Result of subsoil tests are unavailable. API RP650 has not provided enough procedural info as to how to carry out hydrostatic testing of this type of plant item.

BS 2654 1973 Edition provides procedural info. However, this edition is now outdated.

Can someone kindly send or give me an updated edition of the BS on hydrostatic testing or better still advice me on how to successfully carry out this test.

Thank you.

Well, matey, let's see now.

You hire a fire engine from Dodgy Dave in Canvey and he and I come round and fill yer tank up with water.

If it leaks or if yer tank splits or subsides, it ain't our fault, see.

That's the purpose of a test, innit? <Splutter, cough>
