Gear Mechanism In Dumping Of Concrete Mixers

Can anybody tell me with,what the mechanism used in dumping of small concrete mixers which is used to turn the drum containing the concrete after mixing of the concrete.whats the gear used and how such high torque is acheived by just turning with the hand .since torque required for turning the drum of the concrete mixers will be very high due to heavy weight of the drum.suggest me with similar mechanism which uses hand for turning such high torque applications.

There are hundreds of concrete mixers and all are different. Some use electric or gas powered motors to turn the concrete. Usually the motor will have a small pully or chain drive that drives a large pully on the drum. This amplifies the torque by the ratio of the diffeence between the small and large pullies. The large pully also amplifies the torque to the drum.

Most will have a large wheel used to dump the concrete. The large wheel also amplifies the torque much the same way as a lever.

The last important point is that the system also works with the different balance points. If half of your material is on both sides of a balance point, it will take less torque to move the material.

Typically the gear mechanism used to dump the mixed concrete out of a small cement mixer consists of just two gears: the small one that is connected to the wheel you turn with your hand, and the larger one connected to the mixing drum frame.

You obtain some mechanical advantage from the diameter of the hand wheel, and the rest from the gear ratio.

The important thing to realize is that even though the drum is very heavy, the mixing drum frame pivots at a point not far from its balancing point, so you are only dealing with a small fraction of the total drum weight to rotate it into the dumping position.

Therefore, this requires much less torque to rotate than you realize, and the mechanical advantage is achieved simply, as detailed above.

Hows the reltive motion between the pinion and the ring gear is made.Wont they slip when the ring gear is attached to the drum and the pinion attached to the hand wheel.Can u plz explain with a diagram.

HOW MUCH TORQUE APPROXIMATELY THE WORKER HAS TO DEALL WITH .AND WHAT WILL BE THE APPROXIMATE WEIGHT OF THE DRUM WITH ALL THE LOAD PUT INTO IT.
