Furnace for Glue Curing

08/30/2010 11:29 AM

I need to make a furnace to accelerate a glue curing process for stainless sheet products. The internal dimensions are width: 1.4 m; depth: 2.6 m, height: 2.5 m. The temperature should be between 100ºC and 250°C. Does anyone have anything about this kind of furnace or know where I can find it?

You can probably get away with making it from plywood or chipboard (certainly ok for 100 degrees, not sure about the top limit) A few lightbulbs and a hot water cylinder thermostat inside will probably be good enough to do the job the job.
That sort of arrangement is often used for glueing and or seasoning bows.
Del

(BTW I'd call it a hot box rather than a furnace.)

Or,

If you want it simple, just build a box and put quartz lights/heaters above and below the sheets.

Radiant heaters.

Will you need a conveyor system? Horizontal or vertical? What's the duty cycle? thickness of sheets, etc.etc.etc.

I built a lumber-drying kiln for a friend of mine from foam-cored concrete that used a radiant coil heater with a small blower fan for air circulation- I suspect you glue curing process would have a similar issue with airborne volatiles that you would like to remove from the curing chamber. Very simple- a big box with a hole for injecting the hot air, and the access door designed to control the flow of exhaust air (hot air in at the top, cold air out at the bottom...)

There are oven manufacturers, who can make it. But you have to provide some specifications for designing the oven. I f you can mail me (n_mahadevan2002@yahoo.com) the following specs., I can design and give you the complete details of the oven.

1) Type of oven: whether it is continuous or batch type

2) Whether trolley is required.

3) Size of SS sheet

4) Wt. of SS sheet

5) Heating time

6) Duration/batch

7) Production: Kg./Hr. – Kg./Day – Kg./Batch

8) No. of working hrs./day

9) % of moisture in the glue

10) Fuel preferred: Electricity/Diesel/LPG

Let us know what the process entails as Infra red curing is normally the best for glue/adhesive curing. However if the parts are too big then perhaps an oven with tubular elements and a small circulation fan is the best thing. Or one could look at a hot air blower directed at the part/s.

The dimensions and temperatures sound like a Pizza Oven. I don't know where you can buy one new; however, you might want to try e-bay

thanks all for the received informations. I believe now I have a good view of options for making this oven. Mn Mahadevan, if you can design it I'll send you the requested details of the oven to your e-mail soon.
