Copper Contents in ASTM A 304L Stainless Tubes

09/02/2010 3:38 AM

Designer specifically states that cu / cu contents are not permissible for ammonia service. The material was ordered as per ASTM / ASME Section A213 TP 304L This specification do not have any cu contents.

Material received have the cu contents upto 0.78 %. The manufacture claims that these only traces and are acceptable. In order to resolve, we are looking for any international reference for its acceptability and need to know the limits of its rejection.

Your supplier may not be fully informed. How acceptable it may be is up to you and your customer, not your supplier.

Anhydrous ammonia corrodes alloys which contain copper or zinc.

Redox property of liquid ammonia: Cu2+ + 2e ↔ Cu
