Contacts NC, NO

09/07/2010 9:53 AM

How do I Ohm the contacts NC, and cheat the contacts of an NO to measure the resistance?

How can you tell with a solid state relay if it should be energized?

So many relays, So little time, Even less information provided. Please try to be a little more specific unless all you want is for us to answer in generalities.

I think you mean perform a continuity test. For NC contacts, measure directly using a voltmeter set to the resistance or continuity measurement. For NO contacts either power the relay coil or in some cases there is an actuator you can press to mechanically close the relay and make the NO contacts.

If you want accurate milli-ohms or micro-ohms measurements then you need to apply a known current and measure voltage drop across the contacts.

Look at the data sheet.

the resistance of the NC should be low ideal 0 Ohms

operate the relay and the contacts will change over now test the NO which will be closed some relays have a test button to manualy check the contacts.

if its a solid state relay the are no contacts to test they use semicondutors to switch the power.

relay testing on a car a relay is a relay be carefull if its a mains voltage relay though

based on your question i suggest you get someone whoknows what they are doing

now these require a liitle more equipment

so is it a normal relay

or a solid state relay ?
