I''m just trying to understand if the rake edge is at the "pointy end" of the drill (see photo)how come the picture of the rake chamfer shows it along the side of the longitudinal helix? (See photo)

I'm trying to understand how you can make a hole rounder and/or straighter.

You can't get rounder than round, or straighter than straight.

Drill can wander with deflection and depending on the margin and point of the drill they can move in the hole causing an elliptical effect thus resulting in non cylindrical holes. When holding very tight tolerances this can be a big problem. Best Regards Marty
