PT Testing for Resistance

09/20/2010 11:46 PM

Do anyone know how a PT testing is done inorder to find resistance in each wingings of a Ynd 11KV/190V,100KVA. I guess its SC test as we do normally in a transformer but anyone who is familiar with PT testing?

DC winding resistance of a PT is done the same as with a power transformer - apply a DC current to the winding (not more than the winding will handle!) and measure the voltage with a digital multimeter. Ohms Law gives the resulting resistance.

Is your PT 100kVA, or 100VA? Be careful - there's a big difference in current! If it's 100VA, you can probably measure the resistance directly with the DMM.
