You may have world-class protective relays but what is the use if the breaker trip coil itself is damaged and/or the trip circuit wiring is open? So, to supervise the healthiness of the trip circuit always, these TCS (Trip Circuit Supervision) Relays are used. If an abnormality is observed, the TCS relay's output contacts can be wired as to raise an alarm so that the operator would then attend to the abnormality.
