The timing mark on a machine shaft or wheel is sometimes called a keyphasor. An eccentricity probe can measure the orbital energy, angular momentum, or other dynamic measurements that are eccentric from the normal specs…this isn't homework is it?

When I worked with turbine engines in 1985-1991, we were building a number of experimental shaft-driven turbines. We would have the machinests engrave a mark on the shaft (a keyphasor), much like the timing mark on some older vehicle engines. It is a physical mark to be used as in indicator, along with all the other sensors.
