Pump Performance Test

09/23/2010 3:38 AM

Can I conduct a performance test on a centrifugal pump connected to a storage tank by recirculating the liquid to the same tank? (Pressure head remaining constant)

Yes. I wrote a lot more stuff after the initial "yes" but, I think it's wasted here.

Sure !!!....not a problem !!! But exactly what is the purpose of your test ?

We all understand that you are testing a used/reworked pump from another process application and all documentation hass been thrown away by others.

It is useful and important to consider the testing that would be applied to a new pump. These are typically available at additrional cost durring pump purchase.

These pump tests are "manufacturer specific" but generally serve to accomplish two tasks:

1) Development and verification of the operating "design point" required by the process

( an individual, certified pump curve is developed from this test)

2) Development of a certified NPSH point or curve for the particular pump

( this test is less frequently done, but very important for cetain applications such as multi-stage boiler feed water pumps)

Pump testing is done to expensive Standards developed in the United States by the pump manufacturers. Much US money, time, toil and development was invested in these excellent standards....... (some cheapskate, third-world user-nations feel that they should be distributed for free)

"We all understand that you are testing a used/reworked pump from another process application and all documentation hass been thrown away by others."

I'm curious how you came to the above conclusion?
