Where is the MIT Graduate/Alumni Working?

09/23/2010 4:38 AM

Dear all,

Hopefully this is not a ridiculous question from CR4 member who lives far far away from US.

My questions are:

1. Where is the MIT graduate/alumni working? Just wondering about MIT Graduates because they studied at the best engineering school on earth (QS Version 2010).

2. MIT, Stanford, Caltech, UC Berkeley, and Cambridge are a bunch of greatest engineering school on earth.. What are they mainly doing after finish their degree??

Thanks for sharing..

All the MIT grads I know are working, not unemployed, which is good. I am not aware of "one main" industry nor am I aware of one company that advertises their company has the most number of MIT grads working there. Maybe someone else knows if there is one company that boasts that claim. So, the grads are working everywhere and in the following fields, and more, this is not an exclusive list. I retrieved the list from my e-catalogue of courses and included the links so you should be able to click on each of these for educational overview:

Aeronautics and Astronautics

Anthropology

Architecture

Biological Engineering

Biology

Brain and Cognitive Sciences

Business

Chemical Engineering

Chemistry

Civil and Environmental Engineering

Comparative Media Studies

Computational and Systems Biology

Computation for Design and Optimization

Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences

Economics

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Engineering Systems Division

Foreign Languages and Literatures

Health Sciences and Technology

History

Linguistics and Philosophy

Literature

Management

Materials Science and Engineering

Mathematics

Mechanical Engineering

Media Arts and Sciences (Media Lab)

Music and Theater Arts

Nuclear Science and Engineering

Physics

Political Science

Urban Studies and Planning

Writing and Humanistic Studies

don't forget a lot of undergrads move on to get their grad degree. I have an x who graduated from MIT with chemical engineering and humanities. She then got her law degree from standford and practices law now. A lot of them use the college as a stepping stone to even great things.

MIT is fine engineering school if you are in the field of metal and since metal dominated last few decay they did a good job of leading world. There is another school by name Alfred University in Alfred New York. Alfred University is world biggest in glass and ceramics. World in this decay and and few more are more depended on glass and ceramic and exploiting these materials along with metal which is needed at end of day to move information in and out.

Alfred University and University who are following Alfred footsteps like Penn state and University of Urbana Champagne and others in USA, Anna University in India will lead the worlds new needs of faster communication and moving informations and processing at speed which will be faster than speed of light

If the MIT graduate is US born and more than 30yrs old I can say with more than 80% confidence level that they are not in engineering

80 % confidence level suggests you need a larger sample size.

How odd!

Both MIT graduates that I work with here are engaged in engineering. I can say with 100 percent confidence that this is so.

Also, I checked their birth certificates and they also meet your age (over 30) requirements.

I have few of my co-worker and one who reports to me from MIT and out of five three are less than 30 years old and 2 is more than 30 years.

Increase you sample size or correct the information collecting method and will see different result

Looks like many of you are reading my comment verbatem

My intent was to over dramatize the situation where majority of engineers specially US born seem not willing to continue with pure engineering when they see that management is the easiest way get more benefits.

I don't blame them. The best brains go to law and wall street any way.

What do you mean that the best MIT grad goes to law and wall street??

Is that mean that most of MIT grads have no interest anymore in engineering field?? Or is that all about money (what i mean is engineering field could not provide more money than law or wall street)???

Thanks..

I have not witnessed any MIT engineers looking for a way to get easier benefits, quite the contrary, all the MIT engineers I know are excellent in their respective fields of engineering and interested in continuing their profession. All have had excellent benefits given to them because they deserve it.
