09/24/2010 3:30 PM

Dear Friends,

What aspects should one look into, when fabricating a test bench?

Gee, I don't know. Maybe you could start by doing a web search on "test bench" to see what present manufacturers brag about.

If "one is in business of fabricating test benches", I'd think you could tell us, "what are the aspects to look into".

If you're looking to start a business, the previous post has some good advice.

I'd think that the aspects to look into would be different for bed of nails test bench as opposed to a pump test bench as opposed to a power amplifier test bench, etc..... But that's just me.

Good Luck.

1. What does one want to test?

2. What does one need to test it?

3. Where does one get what one needs to test it?

4. Does one prefer to sit or to stand (bench height)?

It depends entirely what you are testing and calibrating.
There is a world of difference between say an electromechanical time switch and a radar receiver.

Do you mean just the bare bench or what goes on it?
If it's the bare bench then just about anything will do a shelf across the back edge 12" above the work surface is good for putting equipment on, and plenty of power points all along the back.

As for equipment, scope, dual power supply, good soldering iron, good multimeter with capacitance range. Tea/coffee mug and biscuit supply

The seat and operative are more important!
