Education Degree Other Than US

I had a BS degree from my country in Asia, does it have any use here in US?

Not sure in the US, it may depend on the specific employer/field of engineering/position, etc. From what I have seen down here in New Zealand many (but not all) people with Asian Bachelor or Masters Degrees have to redo them in local Universities if they want to get a job as say a Doctor or engineer.

What proof is required to my employer?

Do you not have a copy of your Asian Degree you can submit with your CV as proof? Perhaps the potential employer could then assess whether or not the Degree is acceptable based on the University the Degree is from, etc. At the very least proof of higher overseas education is better than nothing.

The real critical factor is what accrediting agency approved the program you have a degree in. Here in the US there are many scam diplomas produced by diploma mill schools. These diplomas are not worth the paper that they're printed on and they're from right here in the US. Now because of the wide variation in quality in schools world wide, many graduate programs here in the US require all students to take the GRE for acceptance into a program. You might consider taking this rigorous exam to bolster the quality of your bachelor degree. But to get back to your actual question, in general your employer does not have to accept you or any documentation of your schooling to accept or reject your degree. It all depends on what field the employer and your degree are in.

I've been through this. If you have great grades and specialized in the latest technologies, US employers will and do spend thousands of dollars getting a green card for you.

Granted the economy sucks right now, but..............

We hired two acoustics engineers from China and two from England. This was 15 years ago when we were developing noise canceling headsets and mufflers. One of the guys was a genius with loudspeakers, too. Thiele-Small, and all. We also hired a Russian engineer. I had to learn how to spell, Vladimir Ambartsoumian.

Each hire cost us $5,000.00/$10,000.00USD and took up to six months.

Can't speak to today, but I'll bet they won't be knocking on your door. You'll have to sell yourself.

No use in Canada. If you are from Asia, but if you are from Eastern Europe you have a greater chance.

I don't see it necessarily true to others have said with all due respect, I have been to the industry for almost 10 years, here is what I see. If you have an extreme natural talent (> 0.1% of population), then you can do anything like Mark Zuckerberg, steve jobs, bill gates....etc. If in other case, for which I have seen that has happened, it depends on how you play wolf with the pack, you can make it happened overnight with your boss.

This all depends on what type of the university you have received the degree from and what really you have learned from there. For myself, I have received my B.Sc engineering degree (Electrical) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and have been working in electrical engineering and software engineering industries in North America for long time without having trouble. However, I received my M.Sc in Information system lately but still working in engineering field. I know many others from the same university working well in North America and other countries without gaining further studies or did well in their highter studies.
