10/04/2010 11:27 PM

I am developing a furniture moving device that I currently use a 2 ton bottle jack as the lifter.Is there a smaller bottle jack style jack that would lift 500 lb ?The jack i have is too heavy and is rated at 2 ton.{way to much lifting strength}

Not that I've seen 2 ton is a small as they go. As far as the 2 ton rating there maybe some that have adjustable pressure relief valves so that it can be adjusted.

I haven't purchased from these guys, but it looks like they have what you want.

GA. The pneumatics offer less weight, and can be inflated with hand pump. (Think bike pump)

yes there are items that are called lifting bags you slide them under what you need to lift, inflate bags, then slide sliders or casters under neath this is an old trick used by riggers for a long time.

When used with a chock ramp these devices can lift a couple hundred pounds about 2". They are low cost and easy to carry.

Of course the Lever Dolly can lift up to 3500 pounds.

Not knowing the full details of your apparatus I would mention there is already
a "Powerfix" Furniture transporter with 4 roller base on the market - purchased
one myself new for only £2.! (google it?)

It is a "toe" lift lever with roller wheels. Admittedly it is not very sturdy, but it
does work. It is light and easy to carry (one hand) and will lift most furniture.

I only say this in case you re-invent the wheel.. at considerable cost!

jt.

If I have seen further than most men, it is because I have stood on
the shoulders of others.

Would an inexpensive, lightweight scissors jack fit into your application? Great range of motion and might be considerably lighter than a bottle jack. I know these are rated for 5,000 pounds but the mechanical advantage is at the end of the stroke. Fully compressed, the 500 lbs is more like it when cranking the screw.

This company manufactures all kinds of specialty clamping devices. You might find something here that will work for you. Good luck.
