Google: "IBEW". I know a guy who is a journeyman union electrician with 20 years. His wait time is over 6 months.

Good Luck.

Here's a snapshot of wages and some other calculators. At least you're going in "heads up". Good luck!

IBEW local 531 has men on the books (as it is called). Some have been looking for sometime and 6 months is not uncommon. Although there are some construction jobs out there in parts of the US. So if you are an electric an, and can verify your training, you maybe able to find short term work on construction sites. May not be in New York though. Good Luck

Our Local 134 (Cook County, IL.) has a two year wait. 5 years ago, it was typical to see 600 to 700 signed onto the (daily) A Book Referrals. Today, the A Book Referrals have 2,317 signed on.

In addition, A Book Residential Referrals used to run 100 per day, today that number is 583.

Wages are based on the particular Local that you sign up with.

I do not know the specifics as far as a transfer from Trinidad to the US but I would be willing to bet that you would be at the bottom of the list not due to any prejudice but due to the large amount of local electricians out of work.

My only advice would be to contact an Electrical Contractor in the area that you want to relocate to and try to pre-arrange employment before you come.

Pre-arranged employment varies from local to local. You would have to discuss this with any contractor willing to pre-arrange employment for you.

Good Luck to you my friend - KJK

First off... you may want to verify what the requirements for licensing of the electrical trade are in the county and state that you wish to move to. There is a more then good chance that your papers from Trinidad are not transferable to the jurisdiction in question.

You may have to do nothing more then writing an exam, but, you may also have to put in several more years of apprenticeship time spent working to learn the codes and standards in effect.

I think I would look into this issue before anything else because... you need that "paper" to be secured before you go look for a job. Good luck to you.
