Lightweight Grout with no Gypsum

10/07/2010 8:30 AM

We are looking for a lightweight grout with no gypsum in it to use for plastering the back side of hollow metal door frames in masonry walls. Is there such a product?

Not sure if hot mud has gypsum or not, but that's what I would use. It's quick and it comes in 5, 10, 15 and 20 minute setup times.

Why no gypsum? I have used lightweight plaster with vermiculite with good success.

Why not allow the mason to grout solid as the courses go up?

Something like this perhaps: Great Stuff

I don't know of a light weight grout.

Much would depend on when the filler was applied. I'm used to seeing the frames in place and the masons filling the space as they mortar in the frame anchors.
