Extruded Plastic Hoops

03/14/2007 2:50 PM

I am interested in finding a source of plastic, polymer, (?) hoops with the following characteristics;

  • 30" OD w/ .25 +/- tolerance
  • thickness of material comprising hoop to be .38" to .50" dia.
  • hoop to be rigid enough to withstand 50 lbs. of compression without compressing more than 10% of its 30" OD *
  • HDPE or some material that has a spec. gravity of .94 -.98
  • UV tolerant or simply has carbon balck additive
  • smoothness or semi-rough not an issue

*ideally, i am looking to replace a .25" dia. Galv. steel (spring steel) hoop of 30" dia. with a non rusting, lighter hoop.

Any suggestions, ideas, go to places?

Your description is a little fuzzy.

You note 30" OD, but a .38" to .50" dia. ??? I am guessing you mean thickness? or do you mead I.D.?

I would be looking for and O.D., I.D. (or cross section) and length (axial thickness).

Use and Quantity will determine who would do this for you.

If it is a defense related end use then Lancer Systems LP

If it is Oilfield, Semiconductor, Fluid Handling, Medical, Aerospace then Greene, Tweed could help you.

Otherwise there should be a good number of small places that could supply the material for you, just search globalspec.com

Thank you.

Actually , the hoops are put into fishing nets * Hoop or Fyke Nets*.

The thickness is the actuall material size and it can vary as long as it has good compression resistance. The OD muts be about 30".

Thank you again for your reply.

Zack,

I'll try those leads.

Basically we are looking for a mini hula hoop but with good compression.

thank you for the input.
