PNP and NPN Sensor Going to One Output

10/19/2010 1:25 PM

I m trying to connect open collector 24 Csensor NPN and another PNP 24V sensor to a single output. They would be used separetely only one of the sensors would be connected to the output which goes into the microcontroller and needs to be 5V level.

I m not sure if this circuit would work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If your NPN sensor is off then the output will rise to 24v. Instead of tying the left hand side of the 5k resistor to the sensor, tie it to ground. Then connect the sensor to the junction of the 5k and 19k resistors. Even if you do this the logic will be different for the two sensors, ie NPN sensor on will give you 0v out but PNP sensor on will give you 5v out. If this is a problem there are other tricks you can try.
