Flexible Cable Power for Offshore

10/25/2010 3:16 AM

I am usually sizing cable for offshore and onshore but I am lack in sizing conductor for Flexible Cable Power.

I want to design, purchase, and install flexible cable power 0.6/1 kV from Mobile Diesel Generator (400V 3Ph 50 Hz 0.8 PF 4 Poles ) to Power Junction Box at Offshore Platform. Approximately length is 50 M.

Some things I need to clarify is:

- What should I consider in addition to cable ampacity, derating factor temperature derating factor grouping/installation arrangement, and short circuit withstand capacity??

- What is the special derating factor for Flexible Cable Power??

- What kind of standard that state about Flexible cable power install in offshore??

Appreciate for your help.

Regards,

Hi Wareagle,

Thank you very much for your comment. I am very sorry because I am so late to give feedback. I have already come back from field. I have also check for the API 14F and It refer to NEC. Just, NEC leave a little bit confused to me regarding to recommendation using 2 kV Cable Type for Flexible Cable instead of 0.6/1 kV.

Why we need cable 2 kV for cable applicated to Portable Power. Refer to Table 400.4 Flexible Cords and Cable??
