HDPE Flange Connected to CS Flange

10/26/2010 6:18 PM

I have to construct HDPE system for potable water, I have to design the connection between the HDPE flange to the metallic CS pump flange,

As I know no direct HDPE flange matching the B16.5 flanges standard, normally we have something that we call it adapter its near to flange shape but without holes of bolting and the diameter is less than the standard flange, then we have lap joint flange comes over the HDPE pipe (the inside diameter of the lap joint flange equal to the outer diameter of the HDPE pipe), the lap joint flange matching the B16.5 standard.

so my question is:

1- Do we have direct HDPE flange

2- Or we have to use the lap joint flange with the adapter as I described above.

I fought the same battle. I ended up going with the adapter flange and flange ring.

The transition was done using George Fischer piping system (http://www.us.piping.georgefischer.com/go/Products/Materials/PE). I had to order a flange adapter and flange ring to convert from metric PE100 piping to B16.5 ANSI flange profile.

Hope this helps.

I have always mated HDPE pipe to other piping utilizing an NPT male fitting- these are aavailable already swaged to a short length of HDPE that can be fused on to your HDPE pipe. A standard NPT flange adapter can then be used.

Also, in filament-wound fiberglass piping systems, we used stub ends from the same material of pipe which joined to pipe with the same joining procedure of the system, and furnished with one piece ring of flange made from filament-wound fiberglass made in accordance with ASME B16.5.

But, as an important note, we have to install a support like that indicated at the attached drawing, especially when you connect a valve at that flange.
