DIN Pressure Vessels

10/26/2010 8:54 PM

Good day. How do I compute for the minimum allowable thickness of a pressure vessel using DIN standard. What should be the formula. We were ask to check for integrity of a vessel which were manufactured with DIN. What should be the stress value i should use? Thanks in advance.

Hi inspectorjoe, with respect to this subject is good that you know that DIN Standards refer to technical standards for rationalization, quality control, safety and environmental protection in order to cooperate with manufacturing, trade, service industries, consumer organizations and government. In this particular case, provides technical standards for rationalization, quality control, safety and environmental protection in order to cooperate with manufacturing, trade, service industries, consumer organizations and government. As you can see this is very far of what you want to do. If you want know how to design or calculate an equipment like a pressure vessel, you have to use a design code such as ASME Code or BS5000, in these codes you can find the adecuate formulas to get the thickness of a pressure vessel with their conditions design, which are pressure, temperature, fuid of work or service, and corrosion allowance by mentioning some. Once you have defined all these parameters and with the help of a code of design you can get what you want. With respect to the stress value, is going to depend too on all conditions that I have mentioned, in special mode of the fluid to be used, for that is very important to have defined the material before make the calculations, and have consulted to an engineer of materials or metallurgy engineer, once you have defined the material, you can find the stresses values that you can use.
I hope that this information being usefull for you.
