Centrifugal Blower Flowrate Measurement

10/27/2010 12:34 AM

Dear All,

i am working in glass industry and have many centrifugal fans , now i need some technical assistance - how to measure the flowrate and capacity measurement with limited resources.

One of our fan with said specification is S.P 1016mmH20 and Volume is 51000m³/hr.

Motor power : 185kw@ 1450RPM , loading at 265Ampere (415V 3Ph.50Hz)

Ducting size rectangular : 1000mm x 1000mm with distance 40m to production machine inlet 10 unit x 280mm² + 2 unit 150mm² outlets.

Please advise me, what is the outlet air pressure and volume for 280mm² and 150mm² ?

Thank you very much.

Is that the value of maximum pressure and maximum airflow or these are intersecting values of pressure and airflow on pressure airflow curve?

To measure the pressure and airflow precisely one need a turbulence free wind tunnel with pressure loss compensating auxiliary fans. However you can measure same by putting a long duct on the inlet or outlet side of fan. Also you can use an anemometer for air velocity measurements and a water manometer for pressure measurements. However all this will give you rough figures.

I could not get "10 unit x 280mm² + 2 unit 150mm² outlets".

However use following farmulae as thumb rule for further calculation with trial and error:

Q (Nm3/h) = P*V*D*D/1.313T P in bar a, V in m/s, D(inner dia) in mm, T in Deg K

Fluid Power(kW) = Free air flow(m3/s) * Pressure rise (kPa)

Shaft Power = 60 to 70% of Fluid Power

Dear pritam,

Thank you very much of your feedback, sorry for un clear infomation given :

the ducting from blower is rectangular shape 1200mm x 750mm then change shape to diameter 770mm and all the below 12 outlets is tapping on this diameter 770mm ducting.

"10 unit x 280mm² + 2 unit 150mm² outlets". mean the total number of outlets 10 nos of circular outlet of dia 280mm and 2 nos of outlet of rectangular shape 170mm x 170mm.

Thank you again and Best Regards
