1) All the info you need is in this book, this is like the bible of transient analysis. well, as you doing your project in transient analysis you already knew this: electrical transients in power systems by allan greenwood. 2)ATP is a royalty free softwave and can be found here: http://www.emtp.org/about.html ------however, there is a better version of this called EMTP-RV which is not free but your school might have it ( just ask your professors ). this version of EMTP is way more powerful, userfriendly, and has all the components you need.

Unfortunally, I'm not a user of the free royalty program. The program I use at work is EMTP-RV which is a paid-license version and this version has ground protection that you need. The original type of ELCB or GFCI was designed only to detect a current flowing in the safety "ground" or "earth" wire. And now it have few more features but the basics is the basics and I believe you can put the logic together and make it a subcircuit or sub-block in ATP and use it as a single device. Few years ago, I remember to hear that ATP has some examples and there you might find the equivalent circuit for the main switchboard with the tvss or you can be slick about it and design your own, remember that most if not all transient programs have transient voltage surge suppression as an element. I do not know if you could get ATP from the link i gave you so I uploaded for you ( please let me know after you download it ) also here are some books I have very useful for transient programs usage: ATP Rule Book ( This is like the complete guide to ATP ), Electromagnetic Transient Program Primer ( This is the important highlights of the primer ) and the EMTP Theory book. Good luck in your search. 1) http://www.mediafire.com/file/ead6l45edrsok5p/ATP.zip 2) http://www.mediafire.com/file/2lld75pxe0fgmzt/ATP%20RULE%20BOOK.zip 3) http://www.mediafire.com/file/cdbzi4ofbmj9cip/ElectroMagnetic%20Transient%20Program%20Primer.pdf 4) http://www.mediafire.com/file/05mhynmn3kn/EMTP%20Theory%20Book.pdf

thanks..already downloaded the ATP software,,,the emtp-rv has the scopeview..in the ATP it has only the XYplot right??does the scopeview create a fine visualization waveform compared to the XYplot?? and what is the GTPplot??

Yes, emtp-rv has scope-view. GTPplot and XYplot(interface of GTP) are basically the same thing, GTPplot is just the program used by ATP to create the waveforms. scope-view is in fact not just for emtp, it can be used for matlab and other applications as soon as their data is stored in *.m files or such. scope-view is made by Hydro-Québec same people from emtp-rv. the advantage of scope-view is that you have a nice way of exporting the data of your plots also that allows you to see lots of other details of the plot (RMS values over an specified amount of periods, etc... ) and GTPplot does not provide a easy to read syntax or give you much details. And about the visualization, as scope-view is a retailed product it must and it is better than GTPplot.

It is as your think emtp-rv is a lot more powerful and give more details. you can get emtp-rv at http://emtp.com/ . you have to be aware that your will need to pay for the license ( suggestion: make your school pay for it ). If your school refuses, try to get something like a demo version (there is a 60 days trial, so time will depends on the level of the work you will do). Otherwise, you should go with ATP because you don't want to pay the license out of your pockets ( it very expensive). What will be the level of your project? And what will be your main issues to address?

im doing my final year project, bachelor in electrical power engineering...im just going to simulate a circuit and show the transient spikes waveform...and how the tvss can reduce the transient overvoltage...that is wat im planning to do,n my professors agreed with it..im still blank in wat im going to analyze if i managed to do the simulation..just record the value of voltage and surge current??so simple...do u thnk that my project require a model for surge waveshape?

It all depends on what you mean by surge wave-shapes (i.e switching surge wave-shapes, etc...) I think it will be a good idea to have it, if you doing analysis on the surge impact or such. Why don't you add some voltage magnification to it? it will make your project a lot more interesting.

Hi Renal74,

Thanks for your useful comments. I'm new in this post and I have read all your posted comments about Babe question.

I'm one of the strong users of PSCAD, EMTP-RV, MATLAB and some other software. I know the advantages of PSCAD and EMTP/RV to ATP but I desperately need to run a simple example (A converter link to transmission line) with ATP/EMTP and show the results (My abilities) to my potential boss. I would really appreciate you if you give me some hints or answer to my question:

1) I have been asked to do simulation by ATP/EMTP. I have found ATPDraw 4.2 and I am using that. Is that the right version for ATP/EMTP or not, I need to find other software?

2) I run the available example models but I can't plot the results by PlotXY. I have set the setups according to a captured movie on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4DZDcLUT5o&feature=related

I don't know what the problem is. Would you please help me to solve this problem?

Thanks

I'm not getting scopeview in EMTP-RV..

Please tell me how to get it..

And also I'm not getting the output .m file when running this software..

Please help me...

Thanks in advance..

i used the surge type 15 of current surge...the thing is it does not supply any current to the circuit after the simulation...i replace it with ac source current and yes it supplied current...does the surge need to be set or something??

Surge source device 15 must be set with the amplitude of voltage or currrent at which you want the surge to occur, also you need to specify falling/rising slopes and at what time will the surge occurs. I believe that in the ATP rulebook or maybe the emtp bible have several examples on this (Keep in mind that there are other surge functions within ATP). And based on your comments on the MOV, I noticed that you have not spend much time with the program or the device itself. in ATP this device only has two nodes, so its hard to misconnect it. And the ground appears by right clicking on any node (follow the prompt).

well i used the combination wave (1.2/50us-8/20us) for the surge..i dont know how to set the front time and tail time of the surge in the heidler current surge...can u gve me ur email so that i can send u the circuit??can u take a look at it??

This is my email, but i might not be able to revise it until I get back to the U.S. Now I'm using my phone as means of communication. It will be easier if you email me the pictures along with the specifications for every device. also include the purpose of your study.

hi reynal74, i am going to do my final project for my study about modelling leakage current of insulator using atp draw, but i have difficulties about how to use this program properly especially for TACS, because i want to use this program to simulate the arcing circuit

i search for the tutorial of this program and i've read ur later post about atp rule book and i guess that maybe that rule book have the answer about my question

i want to download it but it's been deleted :(

so could u help me to upload that file again and give the link?

please help me....
