Instrumentation Cable Specification: Blue vs. Black

10/30/2010 2:29 AM

I am in power plant project, I am about to lay cables for IS & no -IS systems. Is there any standard to use Blue sheathed cables for IS systems and Black Sheathed cables for Non-IS systems.

Thanking you in advance.

Light blue color coding shall be used to identify intrinsically safe wiring. The preferred practice is to specify intrinsically safe interconnecting cables with a blue outer jacket. Alternatively, blue sleeves slipped over the jacket at all points of termination may be used to identify I.S. wiring

ANSI/ISA-RP12.6-1995

504-80 Identification

(c) Color coding. Color coding shall be permitted to identify intrinsically

safe conductors where they are colored light blue and where no other conductors

colored light blue are used.
