Greetings TonyS,

Thanks for the neat website. Great pictures!

As kvsridhar commented, very nostalgic!

Some of the equipment shown reminds me of equipment I have come across in some of the early (1903) Edison (now Midwest Generation) generating plants I have worked in.

Thanks!

KJK,

You wouldn't have happened to have worked at Fisk (online 1903) in Chicago?

It was hard to believe the main gen. room had tiled floors at one time. Sort of like some abandoned museum.

During the first year of my apprenticeship part of Friday afternoon would be spent polishing the switch room floor and walls. Also when it was made dead the open slate switchgear. We had a Mercury Arc Rectifier along with a rotary converter for the 220V DC, the switchgear looked like part of a set from a Hammer movie. When I was certified competent (insane) to operate the switchgear it used to terrify me, your hand went between the 2 poles of the ACBs as you closed them.

Nothing like open switchgear and a nice shiny polished floor to keep you from getting complacent.
