PVC Extrusion Temperature for Sheet

11/02/2010 12:03 AM

We are extruding PVC sheet at a temperature of 191deg.C. Shrinkage value of these sheet is below 5%. What will be other feasible temperature ranges that will not be affecting the shrinkage of sheet.

In answer to your very brief question, there are two other feasible temperature ranges, namely HOTTER and COLDER than the current temperature.

Did it occur to you, that in order to assist, it may be necessary to know what thickness you are extruding, whether you are using plasticized or unplasticized polymer, what extrusion aids you may have included in what is doubtless a commercial formulation that you could helpfully disclose, whether you are calendering the extrudate or simply using a slit die? If calendering, what roll temperature and what reduction? What is the cooling profile? I could go on ... but I don't wish to waste your time, since that would be rude behaviour.

In the professional engineering field it is acceptable to anaswer questions and maintain the self esteem of the person asking the question. The idea is to help not belittle.

Compared to some of the responses I have given posters who seem to think we can read their minds when they post an abbreviated (incomplete) question to describe a complex problem, I think Relativity PL was downright hospitable.

My response would have been either 190° or 192°, or why not hire a competent process engineer?

The question does not provide sufficient information to recieve an informed answer!
