Bridle Loop

11/03/2010 4:11 PM

Can anyone tell me what a "Bridle (Bridal) Loop" is in relation to piping hot water to a VAV reheat coil?

I don't have a clue. But, I'll guess anyway. Maybe it's another term for closed loop circulation within the VAV unit?

It is also called a nulling loop and maybe a bypass. It will allow circulation after a 3-way valve is closed.

GA to Geode Hunter. For more information, a very good description and drawing can be found here.

Thanks so much. Makes perfect sense. I'm not sure of the origin of the term...why not just call it a bypass?

I am not so sure on why, but there are many other items also called the same. Horse trails in local parks have similar names and usually are a shortcut to the barns or campgrounds.

I believe it also is some part of the leather tack and harness that probably looks like a bypass from one section of tack to another.

Most likely some mechanic was trying to spice up his day and the term caught on.

Just a guess? In a system that has separate pairs, that are joined together, they are referred to as married, eg: marry system A to system B. ( Join them together).

Regards JD.
