Product Manager to Welding Engineer

I'm interested in being a Welding Engineer. I have not worked in this field recently other than 6 years ago as a Field Engineer with some Welding involved (GTAW/GMAW/SMAW). Would completing a CWI be beneficial? I have a Masters Degree in Mechanical/Welding Engineering (completed 2002) and Certified SMAW/ Gas Welder, and want to get back to my true passion. Any advice, tips on how to bridge gaps, barriers, or IL companies hiring?
