Star Delta Motor Running Trouble

11/12/2010 1:14 PM

The 37 KW motor starts in star and converts to delta, the contactor (delta closes). But, the motor does not run (the delta and main contactor is not tripping though). We have checked the running individually by starting in star and directly starting in delta. it runs that time. but in normal star/delta fashion the motor trips in delta change over. what could be the reason?

MOTORS don't "trip", contactors don't trip either, but protective devices FOR the motor might trip. So what exactly is tripping?

check the star/delta timer then somewhat adjust the timing of that timer.

I hope the motor is a squirrel cage IM.You might have observed the motor runs little slow when it is in delta and works fine in star.please check the connection of delta is done properly(both starter and links outside the motor). If the problem persist its because entire motor winding may be wrongly winded.I hope back-off fuse setting is correct.
