Jeep Grand Cherokee 95 Problems (Not Wanting to Start)

11/13/2010 2:08 PM

put new timing chain in but now it won't start, i have a good spark and good fuel pressure. i have checked out cam sensor and crank sensor, all are good. i have looked for codes but all i get is code 12 memory cleared, because i had the battery unhooked when i changed the timing chain. could i have mistakenly cleared all of the information about driveability from the pcm, and if so how would i get it back without taking it to a repair shop?

Far for being an expert, I am compelled to throw in my 2 cents. Replacing the timing chain was a major surgery. There are some marks on the flywheel, there are some gaps for the valves' rods to the camshaft that have to be precise and all these have values given in the service manual of that motor. If, for example, due to a timing chain miss position the spark will be initiated in the respective cylinder during the evacuation phase, when one (or two) valves are "open", so even if there is a bit of "explosion" due to the spark, it has a weaker effect than that of a cow's f*rt. But I hope that you did all the right things with the timing chain and, in fact, the problem with your Grand Cherokee is a minor one (like a disconnected wire from the ignition coil to the distributor cap - if your car has something like that).

"There are some marks on the flywheel,"

That's the wrong end.
